Intensive inspection drive against illegal liquor supply in progress

Raipur: To stop illegal supply of liquor, intensive inspection drive is being conducted by Excise Department in all the districts of Chhattisgarh. Excise Commissioner Dr Kamalpreet Singh chaired a state-level meeting of department officials today to review in detail the progress of the drive.

In the meeting, District Excise Officers informed that in the month of April 2019, total 947 cases of illegal liquor supply were filed under the sudden inspection drive conducted across the state. In these cases, 894 accused were arrested under various sections of Excise Act. In just one month, 3632 liters of illegal liquor was seized. Besides, eight vehicles that were found being used for illegal supply of liquor have also being seized. In the meeting, Excise Commissioner Dr Singh directed the officials to regularly conduct inspections and raids in liquor shops. He also directed them to keep a check on quality of liquor being sold.

He said that all the district excise officers should ensure that under no circumstances, liquor should be sold on prices higher than the prescribed rate. In case complaints against sale of liquor on higher than given prices are received, it should be immediately taken into account and the guilty found after investigation of the case should be subjected to strict action as per the rules. Recently, some officers were also subjected to the disciplinary action. Excise Commissioner said that officials should work with complete integrity and alertness, and take strict action upon the complaints of illegal and overrate liquor supply within 24 hours of being reported. Excise Commissioner instructed the officials to ensure that the CCTV cameras installed in liquor shops should be kept on and operational 24×7. This includes 340 country liquor shops and 310 foreign liquor shops. Dr Kamalpreet Singh asked the officials should ensure that the customers are provided bills at liquor shops compulsorily.

In the meeting, Commercial Tax Department Special Secretary Mr. AP Tripathi, Additional Commissioner Mr. PL Verma and Mr. RK Mandavi, Beverage Corporation’s Joint Managing Director Mr. Tripathi and Excise Officials of all the districts along with all the deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and other officials from State Headquarters were present.
